DESCRIPTION:Please join us as Mr. Elvin Shields shares his research into the lives of sharecroppers\, tenant farmers and the citizens of Louisiana\, Arkansas and Mississippi living along the Mississippi River.\n\nHe will be reviewing books authored by Lyle Saxon (Father Mississippi)\, John M. Barry (Rising Tide)\, and Dr. Richard M. Mizelle\, Jr. (Backwater Blues). Mr. Shields will also review publications by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Designing the Bayous and The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, A History) and display his latest artwork entitled Adrift to Nowhere: Sharecroppers Life on the Levee.\n\nMr. Shields worked under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flag for 20 years as a design and construction engineer until retirement in 2011.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.\n\nCall (318) 357-2492 for more information.
