1. The Dickens House (855 rue Washington) Only steps away from the brick streets of downtown, this charming historic cottage reflects the homeowner’s love of elegant furnishings and the Christmas season. Traditional decorations in classic red and green are prominent throughout the house. The collection of Snow Village churches and buildings surrounding the tree are reminiscent of the historic structures found on Cane River.

2. The Natchitoches Historic Foundation Headquarters (550 Second Street) The Natchitoches Historic Foundation headquarters, also known as the Historic Cunningham Law Office, was built in 1860 by Henry Safford and is available to rent. The building was constructed of 36-foot virgin pine sills held in place by wooden pegs still as sound as the day they were fitted together by hand. The property houses a large collection of rare Clementine Hunter paintings. To rent this property or the gardens behind it, please visit www.natchitocheshf.com

3. The Natchitoches Courthouse Museum(600 Second Street) The first Natchitoches Parish Courthouse was built on this site about 1828. It was demolished in 1895 to allow for the present historic courthouse, which was built in 1896. This Richardsonian Romanesque structure has housed the offices of clerk of court, the assessor, the sheriff, the school board, the judge, and a courtroom. In 1933, the attic, courtroom, and tower clock were extensively damaged by fire. In 1979, the old building was restored, as near as possible, to its original appearance.

4. Trinity Episcopal Church (533 Second Street) Trinity Episcopal Church carries with it many memories and associations dating back to pre-Civil War days. On March 22, 1843, the Church was formally incorporated by act of the Louisiana legislature, largely through the efforts of Bishop Polk, who would become the Civil War’s famed “Fighting Bishop.” It was also the site of Truvy, Ouiser, and Clairee’s church during the filming of Steel Magnolias.
