Position Summary
The Anesthesia Technician has the responsibility for the maintenance of the anesthesia carts, anesthesia equipment, and the ordering and stocking of anesthesia supplies. The Anesthesia Technician assists the Anesthesia providers in their daily activities of patient care. Knowledgeable of supplies and equipment appropriate to every age group (infant to older adults). Performs assigned tasks in accordance with the hospital’s philosophy, values, standards, policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities

1. Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the Anesthesia tech’s scope of practice.
2. Uses appropriate communication with CRNAs and coworkers in daily activities.
3. Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a Anesthesia Technician.
4. Performs other duties as assigned, within the Anesthesia tech’s scope of practice.
5. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and provide services within scope of practice.
6. Communicates appropriately and clearly CRNAs, co-workers, and physicians.
7. Assist Anesthesia personnel in performing their duties, including assisting with induction of general anesthesia, assembling equipment for nerve blocks, etc. when available.
8. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
9. Is responsible for cleaning and setting up anesthesia trays and appropriately charging for times used.
10. Cleans Anesthesia machine, ultrasound machine, glide scope, monitors and cables, and Pyxis machine between surgical cases, when available.
11. Keep Anesthesia workroom, office and anesthesia areas neat, clean and orderly.
12. Order inventory stock/equipment for anesthesia. Responsible for yearly inventory listing.
13. Interacts professionally with patient/family and all members of the treatment team.
14. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
15. Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
16. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
17. Coordinates and supervises activities under the direct supervision of the CRNA and surgery director.
18. Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
19. Provides basic nursing care to Same Day Surgery patients within the scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
20. Meets communication needs of patients.
21. Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patient.
22. Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
23. Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
24. Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric, and general patient population.
25. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
26. Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
27. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
28. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
29. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
30. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
31. Responds to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
32. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
33. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
34. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
35. Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
36. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
37. Coordinates and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
38. Demonstrates knowledge of disease entities.

Requirements:
Required Education and Experience
1. Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Current CPR Certification.
3. Minimum of six months to one year of related work experience or taking/have taken related educational courses.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
2. Previous experience in a surgical environment preferred.
