 Job Summary

Performs a variety of imaging procedures that may include MR/CT/Radiology procedures, and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Ensures proper protocols and MRI safety procedures are followed for all MR scans in facility. Functions as the first line interface with patients, management, and physicians in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities. Functions at the level of MR Technologist in the performance of these duties Performs a variety of imaging procedures that may include MR/CT/Radiology procedures, and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Primary Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and the use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock and burns to patients.

2. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

3. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Places IVs for procedures.

4. Works under the direction of the radiologist at all times.

5. Assesses, evaluates, and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during an exam.

6. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.

7. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.

8. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. Maintains relationship with service personnel. Performs basic service and maintenance of MR scanner.

9. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, documents any deviation. Responsible for clarifying and verifying orders to ensure correct and most efficient exam is ordered and performed for patient.

10. Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams and different contrast materials.

11. Interacts professionally with patient/family.

12. Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent.

13. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment, never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.

14. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general population.

15. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.

16. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.

17. As the singular person on staff, performs all duties of office manager for outpatient site.

18. Oversees scheduling of exams.

19. Responsible for screening of patients and non-patients and ensuring patient safety in and around strong magnetic field.

20. Responsible for screening medical implants and foreign bodies for safety in MRI environment.

Competencies

  1. Basic computer knowledge.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. 
  4. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials.

Supervisory Responsibility

No supervisory responsibility.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience

1. Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology required.

2. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography.

3. Current LSRT State license required.

4. BCLS certification required (or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
