The Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches (APHN) will host an open house and "The Historical Hysterical Ladies" Exhibition featuring the beginnings of the association.
The exhibition includes stories of the restoration of Lemee House, saving the Front Street bricks and preservation of Melrose Plantation. Learn how in the 1940's Gov. Earl Long sent trucks to pave over the Front Street bricks.
The founders of APHN laid down over the bricks protecting them from destruction. When Long heard of their demonstration, he instructed the workers to leave the ladies alone. The bricks were saved and the foundation of preservation began.
