Battle of Natchitoches - Civil War Reenactment

Battle of Natchitoches
Civil War Reenactment

Fri.Oct. 31 - Sun. Nov. 2, 2014
Downtown Natchitoches

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Union forces marching into downtown Natchitoches in 1864.
Orton S. Clark of the 116th New York reported that men and women, most of who were French, faced disaster at the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill in the days to come.

Join us as reenactors from the Trans Mississippi Volunteer Infantry Battalion commemorate the event as they reenact the arrival of the Yankees into downtown Natchitoches on Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 2.  However, the Union forces will not be opposed.  Confederate forces will be waiting to defend their hometown.

There will be up to 300 infantry reenactors who will battle across Front Street and the Church Street bridge.  A replica of a Union Ironclad gunboat will ride down Cane River Lake.

On Friday, school children are invited to witness live firing demonstration of artillery, rifle demonstrations, visit campsites, and witness working blacksmiths.

On Saturday evening, join us for an old south style dance with the 12th Louisiana String Band.  The public is invited to dress up and participate.    This reenactment event is free and open to the public.
