Since 1968, Special Olympics has provided year-round sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through sports, Special Olympics builds character, self-esteem, and pride in athletes, while changing negative perceptions about people with intellectual disabilities in society. This exhibit explores the history of this unique organization in Louisiana, highlighting the stories of the talented athletes, coaches, volunteers and administrators who helped built it.
The exhibition opens with a reception from 6 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th. The public is invited to this free opening event.
