The Cane River Green Market is excited to continue its summer season on Saturday, July 14 with an exciting array of activities in celebration of July as National Blueberry Month and National Ice Cream Month.

Featured market activities will include:

A free yoga class (8:30 - 9:30 am) - More details below
Free samples of homemade ice cream with fresh blueberries
A food drive - More details below
Live musical entertainment by Uptown Jazz (9:00 - 11:00 am)

As always, market customers can choose from a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables from Green Market produce vendors. Customers can also enjoy a selection of value-added products including farm fresh eggs, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, fresh flowers, herbs and much more. Hand-crafted items are also available including jewelry, woodwork, stained glass and other items.

Free Yoga Class Offered Every Saturday in July

A free beginning yoga class will be offered from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in July. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring water and a towel.

The class will be instructed by Jessica Salter-Shirley, a certified yoga and fitness instructor and owner of Pure Fitness Solutions.

Cane River Green Market Hosting Back to School Food Drive
Benefits the Natchitoches Parish BackPack Program of the Food Bank of Central Louisiana

Background:
The Cane River Green Market is hosting a back to

school food drive during the month of July to benefit the Natchitoches Parish BackPack Program provided by the Food Bank of Central Louisiana. The program, which provides backpacks with food to children experiencing food insecurities on weekends and school vacations, benefits 200 students each week at L.P. Vaughn and Parks Elementary Schools.

Drop-off Location:
Donations of food items and new or gently-used back packs can be dropped off at the Cane River Green Market, which is open every Saturday in July from 8:00 a.m. to noon on the downtown riverbank. Donations can also be taken directly to the Green Market office located at City Hall, 700 Second Street.

Requested Items:
Donated food items should be nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-open food that does not require stove-top cooking. Requested items include, but are not limited to, peanut butter in plastic jars, ramen noodles, canned ravioli, cereal bars, granola bars, single serving fruits and vegetables, and many other items.

Monetary donations to support the BackPack Program can also be made directly to the Food Bank. The Food Bank can provide an impoverished child with a backpack full of food every Friday for $135 a school year or $3.75 a week.
