Cane River Green Market Fall Season Opens

• LSU AgCenter 4-H Ultimate Recipe Showdown:
   
  • A contest for 4-H Club members designed to educate participants on quality standards, size classifications, nutritional values of foods, proper storage procedures, cooking principles, and use and economic value of beef, egg, pecan, poultry and seafood commodities.
     
  • Local winners in each division will advance to the Area Cookery Contest scheduled for March 27, 2012 at the Bossier Civic Center, where they will compete against other 4-Her's from the Northwest Region.

• Pecan bake-off - Entries for the pecan bake-off need to be delivered to the market hospitality tent by 10:00 a.m. for judging. Prizes awarded.
   
• Belly dancing demonstration by the Port Belly Project of Shreveport, La.
   
• Animal adoption day with Hope for Paws.
   

• Free samples of pecans and homemade butter pecan ice cream whiles supplies last. 
   

• Sale of irises by the Master Gardeners Association.
   
• Live musical entertainment by Luke Jazz Trio. 

As always, customers can choose from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables; value-added products including farm fresh eggs, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, and fresh flowers; and hand-crafted items including jewelry, woodwork, stained glass and other items.
