CLEMENTINE HUNTER presented by Tom Whitehead
Join us for a conversation with Tom Whitehead, co-author of the recently published Clementine Hunter: Her Life and Art. Mr. Whitehead will talk about self-taught Melrose Plantation artist Clementine Hunter (1887 – 1988), who painted thousands of scenes of plantation life in the Cane River region. Hunter’s life and work continue to attract international attention more than twenty-five years after her death, even inspiring a recent opera.
Mr. Whitehead, a personal friend of Hunter’s, has written and spoken widely on the artist. He helped uncover a decades-long Hunter forgery operation that had fooled many experts. He is professor emeritus of journalism at Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
