Figure Painting: Master Class with Ray Turner Saturday, March 2, 12:30-3:30pm Learn tips and tricks of capturing figures in oil painting from a live model. Artist Ray Turner will teach composition, color, value, and point-of-view, with demonstration as well as individual instruction, and talk on how to succeed in the art market. Easels, basic paint colors, and some brushes will be provided. Students may bring their own painting surface and additional paint colors; large and small filbert brushes are recommended. Advance registration required. Fee: $10 for household members and above, $20 for individual members, $30 for non-members. Ray Turner's "Population" exhibition is currently on display at the Alexandria Museum of Art, a unique, community-engaged touring exhibition comprised of a series of painted portraits inviting the viewer to contemplate notions of both collective and individual identity. Featuring portraits of 22 local Alexandria area community members: LaDonna Bernard, Adam Boudreaux, Fran Davis, former Governor Edwin Edwards, Mayor Clarence R. Fields, Dan Forest, Mark Garcia, Joy Hodges, Brenda Howell, Jim Hurst, Michael Jenkins, Kasey Morgan, Daxa Patel, Rhonda Remedies Gauthier, John Gunter, Irma Rodriguez, Mayor Jacques Roy, Harry Silver, Reverend August Thompson, Robert Vandersypen, Kathleen Witte, and Ruby Woods Smith! Reflecting his commitment to exploring community through art, he taught drawing to youth at J.S. Slocum Learning Center and Youth Challenge Program at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, and women and children at Hope House of Central Louisiana.
