Gary Dillard Joiner April speaker for the NGHA

Natchitoches Genealogical and Historical Association presents
Dr. Gary Dillard Joiner, Assistant Professor of History and Director, Red River Regional Studies Center at Louisiana State University, Shreveport is the April speaker for the monthly meeting of the NGHA. Dr. Joiner is a noted author, historian and highly sought after speaker. He has written and co-authored over eleven books on Louisiana history and events of the Civil War, including some very interesting stories and commentaries on the Red River Campaign. His newest book Wicked Shreveport, was slated for release in 2011.
In addition to his regular duties at LSUS, Dr. Joiner holds other demanding offices and memberships in organizations such as President, Faculty Senate at LSUS, History Consultant, Louisiana Public Broadcasting, The History Channel, MSNBC, HGTV and Founder, President, Desoto Parish Historical Society. He also finds the time to be actively involved as a member of Phi Alpha Theta, National History Fraternity, U.S. Civil War Center, Histories of the Civil War Western Theater, American Cartographic Association, North Louisiana Civil War Round Table and several others which promote his interest in Military, Civil War and Archaeological history. Dr. Joiner and members of one of classes were pivotal in the restoration and preservation of an abandoned and historic Catholic cemetery in Desoto parish which contained several pioneer family names prominent in Natchitoches parish
Dr. Joiner's topic for the Tuesday, April 24th meeting will be "Steamboats on the Red River" with additional highlights from the Red River Campaign of 1864. The meeting starts at 7pm at the Natchitoches Arts Center and is free and open to the public.
