Microchip fundraiser by the NSU Vet Tech Club

Do your pets escape out of your yard often? Are you concerned your pet may get lost? Do you just want to have peace of mind that if your pet does get lost, you will be able to find them? Well, we have a solution! A microchip can be placed beneath the skin of your pet. When your pet is micro chipped, we will register your pet with the AKC database and you will receive a tag in the mail that goes on your pet’s collar. When pets are found, the tag will have a telephone number and your pet’s microchip ID number. The phone number is called and your pet can be identified. If for some reason, your pet’s collar or tag is lost, your pet can still be identified. Standard veterinary hospital and shelter protocol recommends that there be a microchip scanner at the facility and pets that are found are scanned for a chip. The facility scans the area around the shoulders and the chip # and company comes up in the scanner window. The facility can then call the company and you will be contacted so that your pet can be safely returned to you. So these are two easy ways that your pet can be identified if found after getting lost.
The Veterinary Technology Clubis pleased to announce that we will be doing a microchip fundraiser. The cost for the microchip, life-time registration, and service will be $35.00. We will complete the registration for you and you will receive the tag and confirmation in the mail.
When:           Monday, October 24th , 2011 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm.
Where:          Room 102 of Bienvenu Hall.

Email Jessica Hudspeth athudspethj@nsula.edu or call 318-357-4316 to make your appointment. We will be placing the microchips at your appointment time and your pet can go home right after placement. It should only take about 5 minutes to place the microchip as long as your pet is cooperating.

Here is also a wonderful story of a cat that was returned to her owners after being missing for 5 years!
