Natchitoches Tourism Day
with Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne
The oldest town in the Louisiana Purchase will celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week on Thursday, May 9 at 10 a.m. with Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne. A press conference and rally will take place in front of the newly constructed Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Museum on 800 Front Street in downtown historic Natchitoches. The public is invited.
Tourism is year-round in Louisiana, employing one in every 10 Louisianans and generating $780 million annually in tax revenue, according to the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
Increased visitor spending supports all businesses in a local economy, not just tourism establishments. Tourism adds to economies during difficult economic times, particularly in a community that relies heavily on one or few industries.
National Travel and Tourism Week was established in 1983 by members of the U.S. Congress and is celebrated annually.
