Louisiana wildlife artist Don Edwards has been selected as Guest Artist in the Natchitoches Art Gallery for the months of May and June. Edwards, who resides in Shreveport, was named Conservation Communicator of the Year by the 20th Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Program for his work in helping to preserve the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge.
His travels as a naturalist, photographer, and artist have led him to national locations such as the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, Yellowstone, and Alaska. Internationally, his interest in wildlife afforded him the opportunity to photograph the wondrous sights of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, Africa.
Edwards has been recognized for his expertise as a wildlife artist since 1981 when he was awarded Artist of the year by the Louisiana Wild Turkey Federation. The honor was repeated in 1990 for the 10th Anniversary print and stamp. Additionally, he was named Artist of the year for Ducks Unlimited of Louisiana in 1987, and Artist of the Year for the 1994-95 Louisiana Duck Stamp Design.
His exhibit will run from May1st through June 30th. Everyone is invited to a Meet and Greet reception in the Natchitoches Art Gallery on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m.
