Northwestern State University will host the Natchitoches Teen Summit for Natchitoches Parish high school and junior high students from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, March 30. The event, cosponsored by Northwestern State and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, will take place in the ballroom of Sylvan Friedman Student Union with breakout sessions held throughout the Student Union during the day. Approximately 350 students are expected to attend.
Topics will cover the consequences of bullying, drug use with special attention to synthetic marijuana, gang issues and making a difference on school campuses, according to Wendy Llorens, NPSO Youth Services/Project D.A.R.E. officer. Students will be divided into small groups according to grade for presentations. Graduate and undergraduate Northwestern State students will facilitate discussions during the sessions. There will also be booths in the Student Union Ballroom to address topics relevant to today’s youth.
