
The American Spirit Will Endure - NSU Symphony Orchestra

The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will present a patriotic concert titled "The American Spirit Will Endure" on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 pm in Magale Recital Hall.
Douglas Bakenhus is the orchestra's music director. Guest conductors will be Trevor Bailey, Emilio Castro and Victor Mata Zepeda. Karla Gonzalez Bueno and Sofiko Tchetchelashvili are instructors.
The orchestra will play "The Star-Spangled Banner" by John Stafford Smith and Francis Scott Key and arranged for brass by Marcus S. Grant after Sept. 11, 2001, "National Emblem March" by E.E. Bagley. "The Cowboys Overture" by John Williams and "We Shall Overcome" arranged by Armond Vance Wimberly and conducted by Castro.
The concert will also include "Hoedown" from "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland," 1714-Life in a Settlement" by retired NSU music faculty member Richard Rose, "American Salute" by Morton Gould conducted by Bailey and "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Unger and arranged by Cerulli and conducted by Meta.
The orchestra will also play "Armed Forces Salute" the official songs of the U.S. Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Air Force and Nacy, arranged by Bob Lowden, "Amazing Grace" by John Newton, arranged by Matt Riley and featuring Carlos Diaz del Valle on violin, "America the Beautiful" by Samuel A. Ward and Katarine Lee Bates and arranged by Alfred Reed, "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin arranged by Bruce Healey and "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.
