Behavior Interventionist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1. Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or
  • other related field
  • 2. Minimum of three years experience working with students with
  • exceptionalities in an educational or clinical setting
  • 3. BCBA Certification or certified in ABA practices
  • 4. Additional criteria as established by the Board

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
SUPERVISES: None

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To promote appropriate disciplinary and social skills through direct interaction with students, their families, teachers, and school personnel/administration.

  • Reports job-related injuries within 48 hours of the incident to the Director of Human Resources. (“Job related injuries” include, but are not limited to, any accident or illness which involves loss of consciousness, restriction of work motion, or medical treatment.)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months

EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education and Natchitoches Parish School Board policy.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

1. Exhibits knowledge related to disciplinary procedures for exceptional students.
2. Respond appropriately to different situations common among students with Autism and
others with behavioral and developmental challenges.
3. Study patient behavior and apply ABA principles
4. Know how to respond to negative behaviors appropriately.
5. Assist school personnel in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments on assigned
exceptional students in order to develop appropriate behavioral intervention plans.
6. Assist teachers and other school personnel in the design, implementation and monitoring of
behavioral management/intervention plans for exceptional students.
7. Attends IEP meetings of exceptional students related to disciplinary actions and collaborate
with assigned personnel.
8. Confers with exceptional students, parents, teachers, professional staff and Director of
Exceptional Students Services for matters related to discipline of exceptional students and
behavior management strategies.
9. Provide technical assistance/support in social skills development, behavior intervention, and
classroom management for exceptional students.
10. Utilize key communication skills to provide effective positive feedback to students, parents
and other personnel.
11. Assist in compilation of reports and provide written documentation regarding exceptional
students.
12. Attends staff and professional meetings as directed by the Director of Exceptional Student
Services.
13. Performs additional duties assigned by the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

to the individual case.

11. Ability to maintain physical stamina and emotional stability to work effectively under
pressure.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Adheres to the regulations, policies, and procedures established by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the State Department of Education, and the local School Board as published in minutes, bulletins, and/or other official publications.
