SUMMARY
Setup and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE
Journeyman machinist level skills with a minimum of five years or Associates Degree in a Technical Field plus at least 5 years experience. Candidate must be knowledgeable in the following components: machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance; raw material, production process, quality control, costing, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods; math skills should include: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and their application to the duties of machinist; design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of high precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to all safety protocols for operating lathes, mills, welders, and other standard tool room equipment.
- Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut; enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
- Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
- Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
- Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Available periodically for emergency call-in after hours and flexible schedule hours.
