Position Summary
Responsible for and performs those duties consistent with the recognized scope of practice for Registered Nurses. Assists the Physicians, in the care of patients in a surgical clinic. May provide direct supervision of patient care. May be the only nursing staff member of the clinic. Performs additional administrative tasks related to patient medical record maintenance and continuity of care typical of a surgical clinic. Performs other tasks as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities

1. Assists with opening clinic, and insuring readiness for daily activities.
2. Ensures patient examination rooms and laboratory areas are ready for daily activity.
3. Enters data into Meditech.
4. Takes and records patient vital signs. Assists with patient assessment, intervention and patient teaching within the scope of RN practice.
5. Sets up patient in examination room for Physicians.
6. Sets up procedure trays as needed.
7. Records patients presenting problem/reason for visit. Record current medications and allergies.
8. Assists Physicians with patient examination or procedure, as needed. Insures that lab, radiology or other procedure orders are recorded properly.
9. Sets up procedure trays as needed.
10. Schedules surgeries and outpatient testing. Also makes sure all consents and orders are scanned in the computer.
11. Send missed appointment or scheduled appointment letters to the patients.
12. Send out physician referral letters.
13. Cleans and restocks patient examination rooms between patient uses, as needed.
14. Assists with patient calls, prescription refills, notification of lab/test results, and scheduling of referral patients.
15. Assists in inventory and ordering of clinic supplies.
16. Meets current documentation standards and polices.
17. Response to the patient is appropriate in emergency or physically distressful situation.
18. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments of the hospital.
19. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
20. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
21. Performs additional miscellaneous duties as deemed appropriate and when assigned by supervisor.
22. Complies with all organizational polices regarding ethical business practices.
23. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the clinic.
Competencies
1. Basic computer knowledge.
2. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential material and information.
3. Must be IV certified and willing to perform related tasks.
4. Ability to interact with all customers (co-workers, patients, families, physicians, vendors, etc.) of NRMC with hospitality and the highest standards of customer service, exhibiting professionalism and a spirit of teamwork. Each associate should have an understanding that he or she represents NRMC and should act accordingly and in a manner that demonstrates respect and pride for this organization.

Requirements:
Required Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited RN program.
- Current RN licensure in State of Louisiana.
- Current BCLS certification.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Minimum of six months to one year’s work experience preferred.
