Purpose:
The Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for properly maintaining the condition of our trucks and keeping them in operation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostics tests; identifying worn and damaged parts
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterizing procedures.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. 
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and painting.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operations instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performance preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. 
Basic Qualifications:
*Must have own tools
  • Class "A" CDL required or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Good mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer a minimum of 1 to 2 years diesel mechanic experience

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be exposed to both an office environment and the production environment of wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the truck shop is usually loud. 

Applicant must be able to do the following:
  • Standing 90% of the time and sitting is 10%
  • Workable use of both hands and able to grasp
  • Good eye sight (with or without corrective lens)
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks
  • Able to walk, stand, reach, bend, climb, push, pull, and stop
  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs. in weight
