Executive Director - Council on Aging

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, planning, and operation of the Council on Aging agency. This position oversees programs and services that support older adults, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, manages staff and finances, develops community partnerships, and promotes the agency’s mission of improving the quality of life for older adults. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership and strategic direction for all agency operations and programs. Oversee daily operations, including nutrition programs, transportation services, wellness initiatives, and senior activities. Develop and manage the agency budget and monitor financial performance. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, grants, and reporting requirements. Supervise, evaluate, and support administrative staff, program coordinators, and volunteers. Conduct annual documented performance evaluations for all employees and address performance improvement, training, and professional development needs as needed. Prepare reports and recommendations for the Board of Directors. Seek and secure funding opportunities through grants, partnerships, fundraising, and community support. Serve as the public representative and spokesperson for the agency within the community. Build and maintain strong professional relationships with local businesses, community organizations, healthcare providers, elected officials, and stakeholders to strengthen community partnerships and support for senior services. Increase the agency’s visibility and involvement within the community by participating in local events, networking opportunities, outreach initiatives, and community engagement activities. Oversee and maintain the agency’s website and all social media platforms to ensure information is current, accurate, professional, and effectively promotes agency programs, services, and events. Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective communication and operations. Monitor program effectiveness and implement improvements when needed. Coordinate emergency preparedness, disability accommodations, and response efforts related to senior clients. Promote advocacy efforts and awareness regarding issues affecting senior citizens. Ensure a cooperative, positive, professional, and service-oriented environment for seniors, families, staff, and the public. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and organizational skills. Knowledge of aging services, social services, public administration, or nonprofit management. Ability to manage budgets, grants, and financial reporting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to supervise staff and foster teamwork. Knowledge of website management and social media communication strategies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and the public. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Gerontology, Human Services, Communications, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3–5 years of management or administrative experience, preferably in nonprofit, government, healthcare, or senior services. Experience with grant management, budgeting, public relations, and community outreach preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in an office environment with occasional travel for meetings, events, and community outreach activities. May require attendance at evening meetings, networking events, or special community functions. Physical Requirements In this job, the employee regularly uses hands for tasks, stands, walks, sits, talks, and hears; occasional activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and using taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus. Salary Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Reports To Board of Directors Supervises Administrative Staff, Program Coordinators, Drivers, Nutrition Staff, and Volunteers.
