Entry-Level Outside Plant Technician (Tier 1)
Entry-Level OSP Technician (Tier 1) Location: Pelican Broadband (Natchitoches) Job Type: Full-time Job Summary Pelican Broadband is seeking a motivated Entry-Level OSP Technician (Tier 1) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone eager to begin a career in telecommunications and fiber optics. The Tier 1 Technician will assist with installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of broadband services while gaining valuable hands-on experience. Responsibilities Installation & Maintenance - Perform basic fiber/broadband installs from NID to router - Assist with outside plant (OSP) tasks: replacing pedestals, opening cables, placing drops, grounding, generator placement, plant maintenance Troubleshooting & Support - Handle router swaps, NID issues, home run replacements, and device troubleshooting - Use basic network diagnostic tools (e.g., command prompt) Software & Systems - Use Calix Cloud to manage customer profiles and routers - Use IVUE to close service tickets, leave notes, and manage workflow - Communicate promptly via email and Microsoft Teams Fiber Splicing Introduction - Learn fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques - Practice proper fiber management On-Call Availability - Be available for secondary on-call duties as needed Qualifications Education & Experience - High school diploma or equivalent (required) - No experience necessary—training provided - Background in telecom, networking, or electrical work is a plus Technical Skills - Willingness to learn fiber splicing and network troubleshooting - Basic understanding of networking concepts (preferred) - Able to follow instructions and prioritize safety Soft Skills - Good communication and teamwork - Detail-oriented, organized, adaptable, and eager to grow Work Environment & Physical Requirements - Indoor/outdoor work - Lift/carry equipment up to 50 lbs - Work on ladders, in confined spaces, and at heights - Available for weekend, after-hours, and on-call work Performance Evaluations Evaluated at: 60 days, 6 months, annually KPIs include: - Install/troubleshooting efficiency - Accuracy in ticketing and documentation - Customer communication - Attendance and collaboration Benefits - Competitive entry-level pay - Paid training & advancement opportunities - Health, dental, and vision insurance - 401(k) - PTO and paid holidays How to Apply Send your resume and cover letter to resumes@pelicanbb.com with the subject: "Entry-Level OSP Technician - [Your Name]"
