NATCHITOCHES –In continuing its tradition of honoring those who serve in the nation’s Armed Forces, Northwestern State University recognized the military service of Captain Dominitra Charles during its homecoming game on October 26.

Charles commissioned through NSU’s ROTC program in 2019 as a Medical Materials Officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard.  She deployed to Iraq and Syria in 2021-2022 and to Kuwait in 2023.  She is the Logistics Officer for C Company, 199th Brigade Support Battalion in Alexandria.

When asked to name a military service highlight, Charles replied, “My favorite assignments were positions I held during my deployment to Iraq. It was a huge cultural experience, and I was afforded the opportunity to meet many senior leaders of partner forces.”

Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from NSU and a Master of Public Health.  She was recently accepted into St. Matthew’s School of Medicine.

At Northwestern State, Charles was a member of the Track and Field and Cross Country teams.  Her hometown is Baldwin and joining her to cheer on the Demons was her son, Payton.

Charles was escorted on-field by NSU President James Genovese and Assistant Professor of Military Science Major Kegan Davis.
