NSU's "Inside AMP" Webinar Will Outline Fast Track to In-Demand Manufacturing Jobs

NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University's Department of Engineering Technology will host two webinars next week for students interested in the Advanced Manufacturing Program, a pathway for students to obtain a degree while attending classes and working hands-on in a regional manufacturing facility. The program prepares completers for high-paying in-demand jobs in north and central Louisiana by equipping them with skills in manufacturing technology and matching them with industry partners.

"Inside AMP:" Your Path to a Career in Advanced Manufacturing" will take place at noon and at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.

Information on registration is as follows.

The program will begin this fall, according to Craig Caskey, NSU's AMP coordinator and instructor, with incoming students taking traditional classes the first year with interviews to match with an industry partner at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.

"Our goal is to match companies with a student for a full-time summer internship where they will earn at least $16 per hour. Then in their second year, they will have the availability to work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and take classes Tuesday and Thursday," Caskey said. "When they graduate in May 2027 they will have an associate degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in advanced manufacturing, plus one year of experience on their resume and more money in their checking account than a lot of their peers."

Caskey has been speaking to educational and civic groups throughout the region to create awareness of the program and encourages high school students, Jump Start students, parents, educators, employers, and school administrators to participate. The program already has an incoming cohort and industry partners include Alliance Compressors, Arq, Inc., CLECO, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and RoyOMartin. Students in the cohort who graduate in May 2027 will have options to return to NSU to complete a bachelor's degree in engineering technology.

Registration for the Fall 2025 semester is open through Aug. 17. Information on admission and registration is available at https://www.nsula.edu/futurestudents/how-to-apply/.
