Northwestern State University's Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officers.

In this role, you’ll provide the full range of police services, including but not limited to enforcing laws, investigating crimes and accidents, and responding to emergencies. Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

 

Job Duties:

  • Protects lives and property through active foot patrols and mobile patrols, enforcing laws and investigating crimes. Maintains records of all reports recorded.

  • Provides first aid and emergency services.

  • Investigates accidents, enforces parking and traffic regulations, and campus regulations.

  • Conducts crime prevention and security programs, guard services, and directs traffic.

  • Operates police network computers and responds to calls. 

 

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.  You will work rotating 12-hour shifts, with rotating days off. 

Compensation: The Police Officer 1 or 2 offers the following Special Entrance Rates:

Special Entrance Rate
  Police Officer 1 - $18.58/hour
  Police Officer 2- $19.88/hour

This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.   

Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, the vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2, depending on the selected applicant's level of experience.
