Celebrate Black History Month at the Library

Natchitoches, LA, February 19, 2025 - The Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) will be holding a special celebration of Black History Month on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the NPL Main Branch at 450 2nd St., Natchitoches, LA.

This family-friendly event will feature traditional African inspired crafts, a display of African American artists on the second floor, and an interactive drumming performance, as well as refreshments provided by the Friends of the NPL.

The live performance will showcase traditional African drumming techniques and will include historical insights from Dr. Oliver Molina of NSU.

Black History Month, celebrated annually in February, honors the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history. Originally established as in 1926 by historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, it was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1976 during the nation's bicentennial.

"Black History Month is an opportunity for us to reflect on and celebrate the resilience, creativity, and accomplishments of the African American community," said Rosalind Parker, NPL Deputy Director. "We are excited to provide this engaging event to educate, inspire, and bring our community together."

Registration is free and can be completed in person or by phone at (318) 238-9224.

All are welcome to join in this evening of cultural celebration and learning at your local library!
