The Department of Veterinary Technology at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applications from enthusiastic individuals interested in the Coordinator of Veterinary Technology position. This is a 12- month non-classified staff position beginning July 1st, 2024. The successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) or have a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine (DVM) and have the appropriate license to practice in Louisiana.

Minimum Qualifications

- Shall be qualified to teach in the field of study
- Shall be effective in teaching the assigned subject material
- Shall meet the required standards defined by the University
- Shall be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling
- Shall hold an Associate degree or Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Veterinary Technology and be a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist in Louisiana.

Job Concepts
-
- Works with the Department Head of Veterinary Technology to resolve administrative tasks concerning IACUC, USDA, and AVMA.
- This includes but is not limited to periodic reports, inspections, and any other tasks that the Department Head needs assistance.
- The coordinator will check on the farm and farm animals at least twice weekly to perform the necessary checkups and documentation of animal care to keep the program in compliance with the USDA and IACUC regulations.
- The coordinator will work with the Physical Plant to ensure the NSU farm is adequately maintained and and managed to promote growth of the cattle herd.
- The coordinator will be the liaison for the IACUC committee and attend IACUC meetings to ensure members complete their training, that applications for animal use are compliant with USDA regulations, and proper documentation is maintained.
- The coordinator will be required to teach 5-6 hrs of VTEC classes to reduce the class load of the Department Head.
- The coordinator will also assist in RVT duties as described in a separate posting.
- Maintaining the national accreditation of this degree through the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) by maintaining necessary documents and participating in annual reporting and site visits.
- Assisting the Department Head with compiling data and drafting annual departmental assessments submitted to the university
- The coordinator must possess excellent communication skills and will work with the School of STEM to create fun engaging hands-on activities that promote and recruit students to the Veterinary Technology Department and provide representation at the STEM showcase events.
- The coordinator will oversee students enrolled in VTEC 2900 & 4900 internships by checking in with hospital supervisors and ensuring students' documents and evaluations are properly maintained by the program.

- Serve as an advisor and mentor for students in the Department of Veterinary Technology.
- Participate in faculty meetings and serve on all appropriate program and College of Arts and Sciences committees
- Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continued professional development and pursuit of scholarly activities including continued education as required for licensure for registered veterinary technologists in Louisiana.
- Professionally represent the University in all activities and functions as determined by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chair
