Northwestern State University invites applications for the position of Dean for the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health.  
The University is seeking a dynamic visionary leader who possesses cultural competence, pedagogical innovation, undergraduate and graduate research, internationalization, career and internship development, and entrepreneurial spirit for the 12-month position. The Dean will serve under the University organizational structure of the President and Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, and be responsible for the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Applicants for the position must hold an earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education in Nursing or a Health Sciences-related field, and demonstrate an outstanding record as an educator and scholar. 
  • Must qualify as a member of the Graduate Faculty
  • Applicants must have demonstrated significant administrative experience in a college or university at the level of academic department head or above or its equivalent for a minimum of five years and demonstrated the ability to build consensus among colleagues
  • The candidate must have experience with accreditation at the College and University level.

 

Job Concepts

 

  • Articulate a leadership vision and strategic plan for evaluating the academic programs and curriculum in collaboration with the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health with the program committees, faculty, staff and students;
  • Provide oversight and support for national and statewide student recruitment and retention activities;
  • Maintain the quality of the College and provide visionary leadership in the development of new programs;
  • Direct fiscal and personnel management and the development of college personnel;
  • Participate in the management of campus operations and resources, and work with university personnel in establishing priorities in the allocation of available resources;
  • Lead the development of the Shreveport campus infrastructure strategies and plans to achieve goals and objectives;
  • Oversee grant and development activities/opportunities on behalf of the college;
  • Facilitate interactions and develop/maintain supportive interdisciplinary relationships between college and its related professions;
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and advisement in developing and implementing evaluation and review systems for faculty, courses, and programs;
  • Serve on college-wide committees and state level committees and boards;
  • Act on behalf of the college to collaborate and build relationships with other university colleges and departments;
  • Represent the College and University positively in interactions with professional and academic groups at local, state, and with national levels;
  • Interact with alumni to raise funds for the college and university and to enhance the reputation of the college;
  • Ensure that faculty and staff work to implement student recruiting and retention plans;
  • Participate in all official Northwestern State University functions as determined by the President and Vice President.
Professional Practices for this Position Include:
 
  • Assuming total academic and fiscal control of the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health
  • Supporting the President and Vice President for Academic Affairs in carrying out their responsibilities
  • Serving as the leader of nursing curriculum areas. This involves creativity, public relations, faculty development, curriculum development, promotion of program and in general, the quest for academic excellence.
  • Scheduling classes in a manner that will achieve cost-effectiveness
  • Participating in all official Northwestern State University functions labeled as such by the President of Vice President (commencement and other called meetings).
  • Maintaining 40-hour work weeks as required by University Policy
  • Advising and counseling students
  • Participating in scholarly activity appropriate to your discipline or positions
